The ageing society is a big challenge in China so as in any other country. One of the key questions is how to construct an elderly care system within a community to reduce the pressure. Beijing Haidian is one of the piloting districts on transforming elderly care in China. There were 2 groups from Haidian coming to the Netherlands for a 2-week training course of the Dutch elderly care system in 2018 and a 3-week training course of Case manager for dementia in 2019.

How does it work?

For three years, the Beijing Haidian district has sent two groups of hospital directors and community health service system decision-makers to the Netherlands to learn about the system, operation, quality control, performance indication, and more specifically focusing on case manager system for dementia care. Planned physical training in the Netherlands was suspended due to Covid-19, but an online webinar with the subject of “Dementia Care in Community” was successfully held by Citta Consulting as our partner at the end of 2020.

Requirements for successful implementation?

A clear understanding of the latest development in the elderly care industry, working with highly trained and experienced experts in different professionals and efficient program design is necessary to comply with clients’ requirements.

Why is this solution relevant for China?

The professional training with Chinese partners is what we have done for more than 10 years. As a result there have been dozens of training projects tailor-made for Chinese participants from government officers who were interested in elderly health care system and operation, managers in various types of elderly care facilities, professionals in elderly care industry seeking for improving skills and applying a different approach on elderly care. This will help China to create future proof elderly care.

“It was an eye-opening training with Avans+, we were offered by up-to-date development in organizing elderly care in different levels.  We got the chance to see the actual practice in elderly care in the Netherlands.  This is a training program we will keep joining in the future.”
